The Institute for Fisheries Research (IFR), a cooperative unit of the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Fisheries Division and the University of Michigan (UM), was established February 7, 1930 and is located on the campus of the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. The Fisheries Division Library is housed at IFR and primarily serves the fisheries biologists of the DNR and UM faculty, staff, and students of the School for Environment and Sustainability (SEAS) and the Exhibit Museum of Natural History.

Below is a short description of the three report series that are available here.

• Fisheries Division Research Report (1930 - present) ~ Present the results of experimental investigations of fisheries problems, analysis of long-term observations of fish populations or catch data, and comprehensive life history studies.
• Fisheries Division Technical Report (1972 - present) ~ Contain the results of population monitoring, techniques, management experiences, and reviews that are of interest statewide.
• Fisheries Division Special/Management Report (1966 - present) ~ Substantial reports that deal with current topics of concern to the Division and of general interest to other agencies and the public. In 1990 the series title was changed from Management Report to Special Report.
