MOA MARC Records

The local online catalog system is NOTIS. Therefore, the MARC records are in NOTIS based USMARC communication format.

The records came from various sources (vendor and OCLC), therefore the standards applied to reflect their respective origins: pre-AACR1, AACR1 and AACR2. The Monograph Cataloging Division made every attempt to bring these records up to the current national standards. Inevitably, there are some missing the mark.

The following describes the setup for the MARC record of MOA Project.

Fixed Fields:

Record Type: a
BLvl: m
Data reflect the original print version, such as the publication place and date, etc.

006 Use computer file format, file type: d for document

Variable Fields:

007 Record characteristics for remote access computer file format fortextual data
035 Unique identifier of (MOAd) preceding MIRLYN id for its equivalentoriginal print version
040 MiU |c MiU (Michigan owning library code)
050 LC call number for the original print version
260 Record publisher information pertinent to the original print source
300 Physical description for the original print source
533 Reproduction note on the processing of the digital version
538 System requirements for the digital version
6XX Relevant LCSH assignments
7XX Additional access points
856 URL for Electronic access
998 Local cataloging processing note

These records are made available via an anonymous FTP. The address is: ftp://ftp.umdl.umich.edu/pub/records/ There is one file: MOA2006.zip.

Interested libraries are requested to use their institutional email as password to sign in and perform ftp activity for these records.
